Durham Healing on the Streets is a joint initiative of Durham Churches which aims to show God’s love by offering prayer and support to people on the streets with a special emphasis on healing.

This gentle ministry works within a loving and compassionate environment, full of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.  It is marked by a true sense of peace. Amongst the hustle and bustle of busy shoppers, walks the Prince of Peace.  Stillness falls; passers-by begin to slow and stop as the presence of God draws their hearts.

Our aims and values

The Healing on the Streets model is a simple, but beautiful way, to reach out to the lost and hurting on the streets of our city.  It enables us to connect with our community, powerfully expressing God’s love in the market place, whatever the weather.  We simply invite people to sit on chairs so we can pray for them. Over time we build relationships, creating stepping stones for people to come to Jesus, and be healed along the way.

"I have seen God move in a powerful way, in my life and in the lives of those I have been privileged to pray with."

How we work

Volunteers come from a variety of churches and, after being recommended by their church leaders, receive training.  They can then join us on the streets as often as they are able. Volunteers meet to pray before going out on the streets.  Our aim is to eventually have volunteers out on the streets every Saturday between 2pm and 4pm but for the moment please contact us to confirm when we are out. Precise location may vary.
